Past year Georgia celebrated the 150th anniversary of one of
outstanding national artists of the XX century Nicko Pirosmani (Nikolay
Pirosmanishvili) - the bright representative of the direction of primitiveness
in painting. A postage issue printed in 2012 appeared only this year. On April
20, 2013 the Georgia post introduced into circulation a postage stamp
"Nicko Pirosmani's Self-portrait". The issue is printed in mini sheet of 16 values.
The dream of kind life and simple happiness was embodied in
Pirosmani's pictures. He dead in oblivion and poverty but soon the artist
was recognized as the bright and courageous innovator. His creativity has
noticeable impact on development of the Georgian and Russian painting of the XX
century. The well known legend about the rejected love of the artist
to the known actress Margarita, become a plot of the popular Soviet song
"Million Scarlet Roses", in 1982 written by Andrey Voznesensky and
Raymond Pauls for Alla Pugacheva.
