Astana (the former Tselinograd, still earlier Akmolinsk) is
known as the military strengthening based by the Russian-Kazakh armies on the
river bank Ishim in 1824. The city became the capital of the Republic of
Kazakhstan at the initiative of the President N. Nazarbayev on December 10,
1997. Astana is the youngest capital in the world. The city is the largest
business, diplomatic, shopping and cultural center. The architecture of Astana
expresses ideology of the sovereign democratic state and is created by talented
architects with a world name. Having absorbed in itself art tendencies of the
XXI century the capital of Kazakhstan becomes one of the most beautiful cities in
the world.
