According to the legend, Alexander the Great in a campaign
to Sogdiana stopped around modern Hodzhent where constructed fortress
Alexandria Extreme. From there he sent to the east groups of scouts for
searches of a way to India. The soldiers who have come back from
campaigns to Fergana mountains brought wonderful nuts which helped to relieve
Macedonian phalanxes of an unknown illness. Therefore on the way back
Alexander took with himself nuts among the most valuable trophies to put them
in Greece.
On March 9, 2013 the state enterprise "Kyrgyzmarkasy"
introduces into post circulation a mini sheet of 6 values "Arstanbap nut
and fruit woods".

In Jalal-Abad area on southwest slopes of the Fergana and
Chatkal ridges of South Kyrgyzstan on 2000 meters above sea
level are located the world's largest massifs of the nut and fruit woods. In these
woods about 130 species of trees and bushes, among which walnut, pistachios,
almonds, a pear, an apple-tree, a cherry plum, currants meet. Separate trees
yield a harvest to 200-400 kg
of nuts a year. The age of these trees old residents exceeds 800 years, and
their height reaches 30
meters with a diameter of trunk up to 2 meters.
