The athletes from Kyrgyzstan fighters of the Greek-Roman
style Kanatbek Begaliyev and Ruslan Tumonbayev on the XXIX Olympic Games in Beijing
2008 won respectively silver and bronze medals. The Olympic awards of any
advantage are outstanding achievement for sovereign Kyrgyzstan which hasn't
been spoiled by international sports recognition. Bright performance of
fighters in Beijing became a serious reason for the Kyrgyz post to note the national
triumph. But as time for the edition of a special issue was a little, the "Kyrgyzmarkasy"
decided to be limited to a memorable overprint on the Olympic postage issue which was prepared
for Kyrgyzstan by the russian PTC "Marka".
On November 22, 2008 the Kyrgyzstan post introduced into
circulation a mini sheet with text in the Kyrgyz language in form of red overprint
"K. Begaliyev and R. Tumenbayev - Winners of the XXIX Olympic Games".
The announced edition of issue is 1.5 thousand copies. However, quirky russian
camarades who then only started to enjoy in creation of philatelic rarities
were engaged in issue of overprints. They again couldn't resist to temptation
to make a quantity "reverses". Being covered with leisure
conversations on labour input of technological process, fatigue of the printers
overloaded with overtime works and other verbal nonsense.
Some tens sheets with the inverted overprints made by
"special order" right there from dealers quickly flowed away for
abroad where appeared in private collections. It wasn't lucky Chinese whom
artfully deprived with a edition. But even more cynically were managed with
Kyrgyz. They didn't get anything! However, the Olympic medals are a powerful
consolation. About the stamps they can admire it on pages of the website UkraFil.
