Tomorrow 20 years are executed exactly from the moment of restoration of monetary system of the Independent Lithuanian republic. And yesterday, on September 29, 2012 the Lithuania post issued a postage stamp dated for this considerable event of national scale. On stamp are represented the Lithuanian talonns - banknotes entered into the monetary circulation in the early nineties.
The issue is printed in mini sheet of 9 values with the commemorative text on margins. Artist: D. Gasiūnaitė. Offset. Art paper. Size of stamp: 34.5 x 30 mm. Edition: 100 000 copies. Printing in “Österreichische Staatsdruckerei GmbH” printing-house in Austria (Vienna).
The Lithuanian talons (the informal name "Vagnorkas" by family name the prime minister of Lithuania Gediminas Vagnoryus) - the temporary money introduced into circulation on August 5, 1991 as means of payment at first in parallel with the Soviet ruble, and, since October 1, 1992, are declared by the unique lawful instrument of payment in the Lithuanian Republic.
In people the Lithuanian banknotes received the name "little animals" because of the image of the following representatives of fauna of Lithuania on them.. 1 Talon - lizard 3 Talons - gray heron 5 Talons - falcon 10 Talons - marten 25 Talons - lynx 50 Talons - elk 100 Talons - bison.
