02.27.2013 Russia-Bulgaria. The Balkans liberation
On March 5, 2013 the Russian Federation post together with the
post administration of the Republic of Bulgaria introduces into circulation a
postage block dated for the 135th anniversary of the end of the Russian-Turkish
war 1877-1878. On russian block is represented a fragment of the N. D.
Dmitriev-Orenburgsky "General M. D. Skobelev on a horse" (1883) picture
from collection of the Irkutsk regional art museum V.P. Sukachyov.

"The white general" Mikhail Dmitriyevich Skobelev
became the hero of the Russian-Turkish war 1877-78. By his command was won the
brilliant victory under Lovchey, are carried out two storms of Plevna, winter transition
through the Balkan ridge, fight near Sheynov and San Stephano's occupation near
Istanbul. The war result became the San Stefano’s peace treaty favorable to
Russia which has brought liberation of Bulgaria from a 500-year Ottoman yoke.
In 1878 the Bulgarians erected in Sofia a monument to the Russian soldiers with
an inscription: "To Tsar-Liberator Alexander Nikolaevich. To
his due and love was freed Bulgaria".
