On March 26, 2013 the Russian post plans to issue a postage stamp
dated for the 150 anniversary of creation of Obukhov steel foundry in St. Petersburg
- the unique versatile machine-building enterprise specializing on production
of products with mechanical hydraulic, hydro mechanical and electromechanical
drives. On stamp is represented the S-300 complex launcher against a panorama
of plant of 1912.
The issue is printed in mini sheet of 9 values. Design: А.
Povarikhin. Size of stamp: 37х37 mm. Edition: 279 000 copies of stamps (31 000 sheetlets).
The Obukhov plant was created on May 16, 1863, as the
steelmaking enterprise which main production were artillery arms of warships
and fortresses. By the end of the XIX century the plant mastered the prodaction
of an artillery piece, armored plates for vessels, the surgical, drawing and
metalwork tool, shaft, weapon trunks, torpedoes and mines. Obukhovsky steel was
delivered to Germany and England where it was highly appreciated. Till 1913 the
plant became one of the largest steelmaking enterprises in Europe. In the years
of war the plant made the guns, railway, artillery installations, repaired
military equipment.
