The historical architectural monuments of the ancient city Merv
which has entered into the UNESCO World heritage list became a plot of postage
issue of Turkmenistan which will arrive into circulation on February 4, 2013.
On postage Block of 8 values are presented the ruins of fortifications and
towers, the Mausoleum and the Sultan Palace, the Mosque and also other works of
ancient east architecture and the products of workmanship found at
archeological excavations. The face value of stamps is marked by letter "M"
that means "Miras" - in transfer from Turkmen "Heritage". Edition
of Block is 10 thousand copies.
The history of the city Merv origin (other names Margush,
Margian, Moru which are translated as "The Tsar Soul", "City on
which keeps the Universe", etc.) is shrouded in deep secret. The first
mentions of the settlement find in Avesta and treat to the VII-VI centuries AD.
According to Zarathustric literature Merv possessed the third horn of plenty of
the ancient world. In Merv was created the immortal creations such great poets,
scientists and philosophers, as Omar Khayyam and Ismail Samani.
