The history of the Russian literature totals nearly one
thousand years and is one of the most ancient in Europe. It arose in the second
half X centuries together with emergence of Christianity, church and writing in
Russia. On July 26, 2013 the post of Ukraine will introduce into
circulation a postage block dated for the 900 anniversary of writing by Nestor the
historical chronicle "Story of Temporary Years". On stamp in block
is presented Nestor-chronicler working, on block margins are represented the events
and the characters described in the story.

"The story of temporary years" is the most ancient
Russian chronicle written at the beginning of the XII century by the monk of
the Kyiv Pechersk monastery by Nestor. The main events of the Story are
external and internal wars, the foundation of temples and monasteries, life and
death of princes and metropolitans. Work is known on several editions and lists
with insignificant deviations in the texts, which brought by copyists. The
annalistic arches are entitled by the following words "It is the Story of
Temporary Years, From Where is the Russian Land Who the First Started Reigning
in Kiev and From Where the Russian Land Became".
