The first mentions of windmills belong to times of ancient
Persia of the VII century BC, and medieval China XI century AD. In Europe
wind-driven generators are known, since the Middle Ages. The earliest data on
them are dated the XII century.
On November 9, 2012 throughout a cycle "Ukrainian
mills" the operator of post service "Ukrposhta" introduces into
circulation a postage block of 4 values and 4 labels devoted to the Windmills.

The most known windmills in Europe are Dutch. They were used
for pumping of water and drying of bogs. Other European region well-known for
the windmills is La Mancha
in Spain. In Ukraine windmills played important role in building of rural
settlements, defining their architectural person and forming a landscape of the
Ukrainian village.
