The Balloon mail is a way of transportation of post correspondence by balloons. The first delivery of mail by the aircraft has taken place on January, 7th, 1785 from an English city Dover to France in a vicinity Calais. During ex-Prussian war (1870-1871) mail from Paris and Metz also was taken out by balloons over heads of Germans besieging these cities.

In the First World War, during a siege of Peremyshl by Russian armies from the Austrian fortress, was lifted in air 10 balloons without crews and 4 balloons with crews. On the sent letters the special stamp "Ballonpost Premysl 1915" was put. Now correspondence delivery by balloons will be organized by mail mainly in agitation and propaganda and commercial objectives.

The beginning of history Ukrainian balloon mail concerns 2001 when during festival carrying out "the Gold Scythian" in indicative flights of balloons in Donetsk and Svetogorsk mail transportation was carried out. The art envelopes published to this event by enterprise "Marka Ukrainy", have been extinguished by special marks. The correspondence for transfer balloon post accepted by mail only in special envelopes by all communication centers of Donetsk area and was sent by custom-made departure. Transfer cost was paid by the Ukrainian definitive stamps and memorable stamp «Donetsk area».

Except envelopes and cancelations made for this action onboard marks with number of balloon and a memorable special mark with number of flight which was put on envelope face sheet, and also a label «Balloon mail» were used also.

The post correspondence of each flight, except usual post requisites, in addition had separate numbering. Inscriptions of onboard stamps are executed by a luminescent paint and have no analogs in the world. In each flight it was delivered not less than thousand letters which have been sent in different regions of Ukraine and in other countries, and the correspondence most part is addressed abroad.

In 2010 in honor of the Victory 65 anniversary joint action of the Kiev aeronautic society and "Ukrposhta" in which frameworks from the Ukrainian Mariupol to the Russian Yeysk through Sea Azov the first international flight by a balloon is carried out. The Aeronauts delivered letters of veterans of war by balloon mail.
