The Pink pelican (latin. Pelecanus onocrotalus, in English Great White Pelican) is the largest representative of group oar legged. Its weight is from 7 to 14 kg. At adult birds is gently-pink plumage.

The pelicans have the clumsy, massive trunk, enormous wings, short big feet, a long neck and a long beak which approximately in 4-5 times surpasses length of a head. On the bottom party of a beak there is strongly extensible skin bag.

Pelicans spend a lot of time on water, but don't dive. By the ground go freely, thus hold a trunk more or less horizontally. Fly well and often resort to soaring. Eat exclusively fish.

The pelican is under the threat of destruction. Now the kind condition is estimated as critical. Fowl, as a rule, don't use in food. Extracted pelicans for the sake of their skin, valued it is high enough.

For some last decades in places where pink pelican met earlier, it doesn’t go to nest. A unique habitat pink pelican in Europe is the delta of Danube. For this reason pink pelican not only is brought in the Red book of Ukraine, but also is under protection of the World fund of protection of wild nature WWF.

In 2007 the Ukrainian post under the aegis of WWF has issued a set of 4 values devoted to the pink pelican. Edition is printed in two types of sheets: the big sheet of 9 sets and in arty mini sheet of 2 sets and 4 labels. The stamps let out in post circulation on September, 20th.

The special envelope and the First Day cancel has been prepared too. Cancelation was made at the main post office in Kiev. The “Ukrposhta” functionaries intended to publish also the illustrated cards for card maximum. However, their actions didn't keep up with idea, to make cards to a target date it has not turned out and it was necessary to refuse an invention.

The replacement to "Ukrposhta" was in the person of the Kiev collectors – philately enthusiasts. They had been made a set of 8 cards which has been cancelled by the First Day cancel in day of issue. The private issue edition is some tens copies. The card maximums have appeared highly claimed and "have quickly scattered" on thematic collections.

E-shop "UkraFill" still has at the order some full sets. Last copies are on sale. The price of set of 8 Card Maximums is 32 Euros.
